Kilkenny City is "devastated" this week, following the death of a young teen who died in a tragic hurling accident.
It's understood 13-year-old Harry Byrne was playing hurling at lunchtime on Monday when he was struck in the throat by sliotar.He was taken from St Kieran's College to St Luke's Hospital where he was pronounced dead yesterday evening.
Gardaí say a report will be prepared for the coroner's court. Mayor of Kilkenny City Andrew McGuinness, says the whole community is "absolutely devastated"."The young man died playing the sport that he loves in his school."
Cllr McGuiness said everyone in the city, including those who didn't know Harry, are in shock.
"It's a sad day for Kilkenny, St Kieran's College and all of his friends," he added.
