A weather station in Kerry recorded its highest rainfall total in an hour ever during Storm Betty.
As the center of Storm Betty neared the south coast at 22:00 UTC Friday 18 August 2023👇, Valentia Observatory, Co Kerry had its highest hourly rainfall total on record with 36.2 mm, which was part of a daily total of 74 mm, its highest August daily total since 1986. pic.twitter.com/oZGCks0TcG

More than 36 millimetres of rain was measured at Valentia Observatory on Friday evening.
The total amount of rain there on Friday was also the highest daily measuing in August since 1986.
Scientists have predicted for years that man-made climate change as a result of carbon emissions will cause more severe and unpredictable weather events.
