Justice Minister Defiant As She Rejects Calls For Her To Resign
The Justice Minister has said she will not be stepping down from her position.
At a press conference this evening Minister Helen McEntee was asked was it true that she had offered her resignation to the Taoiseach earlier today.
She said she hadn’t.
It's as the Sinn Féin leader said she has no confidence in the Justice Minister or the Garda Commissioner.
It follows the Dublin riots last night which resulted in the arrests of 34 people, while a number of Garda vehicles, Dublin buses and a Luas were set on fire.
Dozens of Gardaí were also assaulted in the unrest.
Mary Lou McDonald says she cannot have confidence in Helen McEntee or Drew Harris:
"I have no confidence in how Dublin is being policed.
"The people of this city have the right to feel safe on their streets, in their homes and in their communities.
"The Gardaí have my full and unequivocal support, but given the catastrophic operational failures last night, I have no confidence in the Justice Minister and no confidence in the Garda Commissioner."
