It gave us some of the greats - Mary Byrne, Jedward and Niall Horan.
But now after years 17 years of auditions, boot camps, judges' houses and Christmas number ones, it appears X Factor may be no more.
Reps from ITV's confirmed said there are "no current plans for another series of The X Factor" while other reports say Simon Cowell has axed the show.
The programme began way back in 2004 when Sharon Osbourne and Louis Walsh joined Simon behind the desk.
Since then we've seen Gary Barlow, Cheryl Cole and Dani Minogue take over judging duties.
But while the show can't go on as we know, at least the compilation of X Factor auditions will live on forever.
