Britain's Duchess of Cambridge has given birth to a baby boy.
The baby, weighing 8lbs 6oz, was delivered at 4.24pm at the Lindo wing of St. Mary's Hosptial in London.
Both the Duchess and the baby are doing well and will remain in hospital overnight.
The baby is third in line to the British throne.
In a break with tradition, Kensington Palace announced the baby's birth by press release shortly before 9pm this evening.
A formal notice of the birth was then posted on an easel outside Buckingham Palace, where crowds had gathered waiting for news of the royal birth.
On the steps of St. Mary's Hospital, a traditional town crier announced the royal baby's birth.
In a statement, Prince Charles said he was "enormously proud and happy to be a grandfather for the first time".
The British Prime Minister David Cameron gave his reaction to the birth via Twitter.
He tweeted: I'm delighted for the Duke and Duchess now their son has been born. The whole country will celebrate. They'll make wonderful parents.
The baby's name is not expected to be revealed for a number of days.
However, George has emerged as a clear favourite with the bookies - followed by James.
