The ISPCC has called on the Irish government to consider forcing internet providers to block all explicit material online.
The society thinks Ireland should follow Britain's lead by asking internt users to tell their providers if they want to be able to access pornography.
David Cameron is expected to announce the move among a series of measures this afternoon.
The ISPCC says it supports the idea - and wants it to be considered in Ireland.
The National Childline Manager, Margie Roe, says the measures would ultimately lower the risk of exposing Irish children to unsuitable material - and this is something which should be welcomed.
Other measures will include an outright ban on the possession of violent pornographic scenes, and on some search terms which can be used to find illegal underage material.
But perhaps the most controversial proposal is one which will make it impossible for household internet users to be able to access pornography at all - unless they tell their internet provider they want to be able to see it.
