Ireland's love affair with the text message may be at an end.
The latest official report from the communications regulator shows 2.44 billion SMS messages were sent in the three months between April and June.
That may seem like a lot, but it's down significantly on previous figures.
Nearly 2.7 billion texts were sent in the first three months of the year - the equivalent of 6.45 texts per person per day - while the more recent figures suggest the average has fallen to 5.85.
The number of texts has now fallen by nearly 25 per cent in just eighteen months.
3.23 billion texts were sent in the final quarter of 2011, but the number has been falling ever since.
It's thought that the increasing use of options like iMessage, Facebook Messenger, Viber and WhatsApp have had a significant impact on the number of traditional texts being sent.
