Irish Water says it expects to have spent nearly over €85 million on consultants and outside contractors by early next year.
The figures are contained in a briefing note for TDs ahead of Irish Water's appearance at an Oireachtas committee this afternoon.
The agency has insisted that it follows all EU rules - and that it's saved at least €58 million euro by sharing systems with Bord Gais.
However opposition TDs have raised questions about whether these savings are genuine given the amounts being spent by Irish Water on IT support so far.
