Irish State Taking Legal Challenge On British Legacy Laws
The Irish State is taking a legal challenge against the British Government.
It's over the controversial legacy laws.
The laws which passed through the British Parliament give effective immunity to ex-paramilitaries and former British Army soldiers for crimes committed during the Troubles.
Those crimes could include murder.
Families of victims of the conflict say this decision was deny them their right to justice.
They had begged the Irish Government to try and stop the British state from pushing ahead with the laws.
The Irish Government sought legal advice - which says the Legacy Laws are incompatible with the European Convention on Human Rights.
Tánaiste Micheal Martin said the Government regrets to find itself in this situation, and its important to leave the next steps to the courts.
