Irish people gave over €800million to charities over the past five years.
That's according to data from Benefacts contained in a report on Philanthropic and Charitable Giving in Ireland.
The organisations Managing Director Patricia Quinn said while the public has shown their generosity corporate Ireland is lagging behind.
"About 700 million comes from individuals and about 100 million come from philanthropy."
She says the pattern of giving in Ireland is very different from other countries, with most donations coming from ordinary people.
