Irish Passport Among Most Powerful In The World
The Irish passport is still among the most powerful in the world.
The annual Henley Passport Index has placed the Irish passport in 3rd after assessing how many countries it provides visa-free or visa-on-arrival access to.
In Ireland's case it's 192 countries out of 227 destinations analysed.
The index had placed Japan at the top of the table for the past five years. The Asian country has now been joined by France, Germany, Italy, Spain and Singapore as the worlds most powerful passport, with citizens of those countries able to visit 194 destinations visa-free.
South Korea, Finland and Sweden are in joint 2nd place with visa-free travel to 193 destinations.
Ireland shares 3rd place with Austria, Denmark, and the Netherlands with visa-free access to 192 countries.
The UAE remains the biggest climber on the Henley Passport Index over the past decade, adding 106 destinations to its visa-free score since 2014, resulting in a jump of 44 places in the rankings from 55th to 11th position.
