The Tanaiste says he has not been able to get any information on reports of charges pending against the Halawa family in Egypt.
Eamon Gilmore has been speaking in Brussels where he is attending a meeting of EU Foreign Ministers on the Egyptian crisis.
It comes amid escalating violence over the past week - over 900 people have been killed in clashes between security forces and the Islamist group, the Muslim Brotherhood.
The four Halawa siblings - who have been caught up in the violence - are being held in custody facing charges of attempted murder and arson.
