Irelands rate of caesarean sections is double the recommended level at many of our maternity hospitals according to figures released today.
The world health organisation recommends a rate of 15 per cent - but at St Luke's Hospital in Kilkenny the rate is 38 per cent. Its 30 % at Our Lady of Lourdes in Drogheda and 29.5 at the Rotunda in Dublin.
Figures released to the Association of Improved Maternity services from the 19 maternity hospitals nationally show that the lowest 'C' section rate is in Sligo at 19 per cent.
