Ireland is experiencing a brain drain due to emigration of educated young people.
A new report on emigration by University College Cork found that while 47% of Irish people aged between 25-34 hold a third level qualification - 62 percent of recent emigrants have a similar qualification - suggesting graduates are over-represented among those leaving.
The report also found that 47 per cent of today's emigrants had full-time jobs at the time of leaving and just under 40 per cent of these left to travel.
While 1 in 4 households in rural Ireland have been affected by emmigration it's estimated that a further 28 per cent of families will see a loved one leave within the next three years.
