The State has spent 86.8 million euro on credits to avoid missing climate change targets.
It's been described as "gross hypocrisy" by the head of the Oireachtas Public Accounts Committee.
Seán Fleming revealed that almost €87 million has been spent on buying carbon credits from other countries to avoid missing EU targets.
A further €6-13 million will need to be spent to stop Ireland missing its 2020 climate change goals.
