The rate of inflation dropped to 8.7% in August.
That's down from 9.1% in the year to July.
In the year ,to August the sectors which saw the largest increase in prices were housing, electricity, gas and other fuels were up over 20%.
Transport prices went up by 14.8% in the years, according to figures from the CSO.
There was a slight decrease in the cost of education and other goods and services.
