Price inflation remains at its highest level in 38 years.
Latest figures from the CSO show it remains at 9.1%.
The data, which covers the year to July, is the largest annual increase since the middle of 1984.
Housing and energy prices have jumped by 21.6% in the past year.
Economist Austin Hughes says households will be struggling with the rising cost of food:
"We see dramatic increases across a range of food prices with the overall increase of 7.7%, but flour is up 17% on the year, bread is up 15%, butter and cooking oils up 17%.
"These are staggering increases."
