The union representing junior doctors will visit hospitals to verify whether doctors are working shifts of more than 24 hours.
The IMO and the HSE are involved in the visits, which were agreed following talks between the parties at the Labour Relations Commission.
Junior doctors are set to mount a one day, national strike next Wednesday in protest against the HSE's failure to implement an EU working time directive.
Non consultant hospital doctors voted by a massive 97 per cent earlier this month to go on all out strike on September 25th, and to mount further action from Monday the 30th of September.
They say that junior doctors are working shifts of up to 36 hours in a row, and want a commitment that no doctor will be asked to work a shift of more than 24 hours.
Talks to avert the action have been underway at the LRC.
Tonight the Irish Medical Organisation said it would visit a number of local hospitals to determine what hours doctors are rostered to work
The HSE will also participate in the visits on Thursday. Both sides will reconvene at the LRC on Friday to discuss their findings.
However, the IMO says that plans for industrial action next Wednesday stand.
Meanwhile, the Irish Nurses and Midwives Organisation says it supports the IMO action , and will not perform any duties normally performed by junior doctors during the strike.
