Temperatures could drop as low as -4 degrees overnight as a nationwide warning for low temperatures comes into effect on Monday evening.
Met Éireann has issued a status yellow ice warning for Ireland from 6 pm on Monday until 10 am on Tuesday.
The forecaster says temperatures will drop to 0 to -4 degrees tonight with clear spells giving way to a widespread sharp frost.
The freezing conditions will lead to hazardous driving conditions with icy stretches on roads and paths.
A few wintry showers will also develop on north-facing coasts.
