The state inquiry into mother and baby homes has confirmed 'significant quantities' of human remains at a site in Tuam, Co Galway.
The remains were found in what's thought to be a septic tank at the former Bon Secours mother and baby home.
It says a sample of the remains show the remains had ages of between 35 foetal weeks, and 2-3 years.
A public helpline has been set up for anyone who may be affected, and can be reached at 01 6473118.
Family groups are to be consulted about possible removal of the remains, with the minister saying that leaving some remains at the site may also be an option.
However this lunchtime the relative of two babies who died at the home has hit out, saying family groups and relatives were not informed about the discovery of human before hearing about today's announcement through the media.
