HSE Suggests Plain Package Sweets Like Cigarettes
The HSE has suggested putting sweets into the same type of wrappers as cigarettes.
The HSE's National Lead on Obesity wants branding and imagery banned on sweet wrappers and sugary foods.
Plain packaging for tobacco was put in place in 2018 - to reduce the number of young people taking up the habit.
Lead on obesity with the HSE - Donal O'Shea believes its too east for children to get sweets in shops:
"The high fat, high salt, high sugar foods that the food and drinks industry are targeting at three year olds, five year olds, twelve year olds would be treated a bit like cigarettes.
"They would be invisible. They wouldn't be at the eye level [for children]."
