The HSE has confirmed it has received a demand for money following a cyber attack on its IT systems.
However, the Health Service Executive insists the ransom will not be paid.
The ransomware threat was discovered this morning.
The sophisticated attack led to the HSE shutting down all of its IT systems.
Some cancer and maternity appointments have been affected by the attack.
The portal to register for a Covid vaccine was down for most of the day, but it is now back up and running.

The National Cyber Security Centre was informed of the cyberattack immediately and began working to identify the technical details of the malware used in this incident.
Gardai and Interpol are also involved in the investigation.
