HSE APOLOGISES AFTER AMBULANCE NOT SENT TO TODDLER

The National Ambulance Service has apologised to the family of a Cork toddler, who died after an ambulance being sent to him was stood down.

Two year old Vakaris (PRO:VA-KAR-IS) Martinitis (PRO;MAR-TIN-I-TIS) died from injuries sustained after he fell from an upstairs window at his home in Midleton in May this year.

A HSE report published today reveals a number of failures by ambulance control staff, who didn't properly assess his condition and believed he would get faster medical attention if he was taken to a GP.

Speaking to Cork's RedFM, the Medical Director of the National Amublance Service Dr Cathal O'Donnell says an ambulance should have been sent;
