There was a 12% increase in hate crimes reported to Gardaí last year.
Figures show 548 hate crimes were reported in 2023, compared to 510 in 2022.
In total 651 hate crimes and hate related incidents were recorded last year, compared to 582 in 2022.
36% were race related, 18% related to nationality and 16% were linked to sexual orientation.
Chief Superintendent Garda Padraic Jones, says it's disappointing to see a rise in hate crimes.
"These figures indicate that a further increase in the reporting of hate crime in Ireland has occurred during 2023.
"And while in one sense that might be seen as a positive, that victims are coming forward and speaking with an Garda Síochána about their experience of a crime motivated by hate, it is somewhat disappointing that incidents of this nature occur at all".
