New research by MyHome.ie shows 49% of house hunters say rise in cost of living has affected their ability to purchase.
The survey of 2,800 people also also shows 63% can't afford to rent.
The rising cost of accommodation has also resulted in people extending their search wider, with 63% of prospective homebuyers and 75% of renters have had to look beyond their top location choice because of price concerns.
Managing Director of MyHome.ie, Joanne Geary said “The rise in the cost of living is having a significantly negative impact on consumer sentiment", yet we know that demand is still very strong despite financial pressures.
The research also showed 85% believe the government could do more to help the property sector.
