Guinness is removing plastic packaging from beer packs.
From August, the company will no longer use plastic ring carriers and shrink wrap for multipacks of Guinness, Harp and Smithwicks.
Instead it will be replaced with 100% recyclable and biodegradable cardboard.
The new packaging will be on the shelves in Ireland from August, while the UK and other international markets will follow in 2020.
Diageo's Liam Reid says it's going to be the equivalent of removing around 40 million 50cl plastic bottles ' It's a big move for us, it really confirms our commitment to the environment'.
