A plan that could give every household in the country 100 euro off their energy bill next year is to go before Cabinet this morning.
If approved by ministers, the emergency energy payment could be deducted in January or February.
The plan is available to all, regardless of income.
Speaking on his way into Cabinet this morning Public Expenditure Minister Michael McGrath ays it'll make a big difference to people who don't qualify for social welfare supports.
"We think it's important to act quickly."
He said the cash will make a huge difference for "hundreds of thousands" of households across the country.
A humanitarian fund to provide up to 20,000 euro to businesses and sports clubs impacted by Storm Barra will also be discussed at the meeting.
