The government is planning to fund more student accommodation around the country.
Higher Education Minister, Simon Harris, wants to see the State part-fund 700 new housing places in Maynooth, Limerick and Galway.
In exchange for funding those projects, which already have planning permission, a number of rooms will be ringfenced at reduced prices for priority groups.
The Department of Higher Education will also negotiate with Dublin City University and University College Dublin, around state support for new student beds.
Money is also due to be given to Technological Universities to fund plans for building student accommodation.
Ministers will also consider expanding grants to allow colleges to refurbish vacant housing to accommodate students.
