The government is to give RTE an extra €50 million in funding over the next five years.
It comes as the government has announced a Commission on the future of broadcasting.
Initially, RTE bosses had pushed to get an additional €100 million in funding to deal with its financial situation.

Last month, the state broadcaster had announced a series of measures to save €60 million over the next 3 years.
The Commission on the future of broadcasting is also going to examine the issues facing independent broadcasters and it will report in September 2020.
It will review the current approach and make recommendations on setting a new strategic direction for public service broadcasting in light of international experience and future trends.
The Commissions will bring its proposals forward by September 2020.
