Government Doesn't Have Time For EU Plans To End Daylight Savings

The government has announced it will not support EU Plans to scrap daylight savings time.

Since 1968, Ireland has put its clocks forward in the spring, and turned them back in the autumn.

Earlier this year, MEPs voted to abolish the practice from 2021.

However, the government says Ireland will oppose the EU proposal.

It says it won't support any move which could lead to different time zones on the island of Ireland and disruption to the EU Single Market.

A survey shows 82% of us would oppose having a different time zone to the North.

Justice Minister Charlie Flanagan has said getting rid of daylight savings time could create "significant unnecessary problems for people living on the border and for the all-island economy"
