An international operation into suspected money-laundering has resulted in Gerry 'The Monk' Hutch being arrested in Lanzarote.
It follows a number of searches in Spain and Ireland yesterday morning, including a raid on the 61 year-old's house in Clontarf in Dublin, following a request from Spanish authorities.
It's suspected the gang is involved in money laundering across a number of jurisdictions.
It's understood Mr Hutch was one of a number of people detained as part of the investigation targeting the Hutch organised crime group.
The Justice Minister, Helen McEntee, says Gardaí are doing doing everything they can to deal with organised crime.
"While I can't talk about individual cases or what might have happened in the last day or two, what I hope this shows and sends a very clear message to people is that our Gardaí are working hand in hand with their colleagues, with police forces right across the world.
"We have very close connections and ties with our colleagues across Europe.
"We work very closely with Europol, but also Interpol."
