Motorists are being asked to slow down on the countries roads this evening.
Today is National Slow Down day and gardai will be out in force in an effort to reduce the number of fatalities this bank holiday weekend.
One person died and eight others were seriously injured over the last bank holiday weekend.
Gardaí say the highest number of road fatalities occur on Fridays between 2-to-6pm.
