Gardai in Drogheda are appealing to the public for information after a local man was found with multiple injuries.
The man, who is in his forties, was discovered lying on a green near Sandyford Terrace, Drogheda by a member of the public at half past eight this morning.
He is understood to have suffered multiple fractures.
Gardai were called and an ambulance brought the victim to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital. Gardai say his condition is serious.
Garda Superintendent Gerry Smith, Drogheda said it is unclear if the man was assaulted where he was found or if the assault occurred somewhere else and he was then brought to the open area and left there.
He appealed for anyone who may have seen or heard anything unusual or suspicious in the Sandyford Terrace area between 4 and 8 am to contact gardai.
The area has been cordoned off and technical examinations are taking place.
