Gardaí were called to a house in Longford town on Saturday night after dozens of people had gathered to attend a party.
Up to 80 people are reported to have been attending a 21st birthday party despite social distancing warnings amid the coronavirus outbreak.
Officers were called to disperse the crowd "due to ‘public health’ concerns".
Gardaí said that those in attendance left the house party without incident.
It comes as public health officials continue to urge people to exercise social distancing during the COVID-19 crisis.
Local councillor Seamus Butler hit out at the young people who attended and said it is disgraceful to hold a party at this time.
He said: "This is serious, absolutely serious. They should be locked up because it is almost a case of attempted murder because this could kill people.
"People like that have shown an entire irresponsibility towards society in general and the full force of the law should be brought against these people."
In a statement, Gardaí said they acknowledge that the majority of the public are making great efforts to implement social distancing.
However, they added that the effectiveness of this is being impacted by people gathering in groups.
