Gardai in Dublin have arrested a man in connection with an assault in Inchicore last night.
A man in his forties remains in a critical condition in hospital after being attacked at Tyrconnell Road just before half past nine.
Earlier today - a man in his thirties was detained.
He's being questioned at Kilmainham Garda Station under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act.
Gardai are still appealing to any witnesses to the incident to come forward.
They're anxious to speak to a taxi driver who picked up a man near the Golden Bridge Industrial Estate.
The driver was heading in the direction of the canal in a light coloured Skoda Octavia, and Gardai hope he may be able to help them with their inquiries.
