Met Éireann has issued an updated status orange alert for low temperatures and ice.
The warning comes into effect from 6pm for counties Carlow, Kildare, Kilkenny, Laois, Longford, Meath, Offaly, Westmeath, Cavan, Monaghan, Clare, Cork, Limerick, Tipperary, Galway and Roscommon.

Met Éireann is warning it'll be "extremely cold tonight with temperatures of below -5 degrees expected widely away from coastal areas, leading to severe frost and ice."
"Patches of freezing fog will lead to hazardous driving conditions in places."

Forecaster with Met Éireann, Andrew Doran Sherlock, said "it's primarily in midland areas where we're expecting to see the coldest temperatures, so that's why there's the status orange warning has become a little bit more confined."
A nationwide status yellow low temperature and ice warning remains in place until midday on Friday.
