Free Hormone Replacement Therapy From January
Hormone replacement therapy will be free for women experiencing menopausal symptoms from January, under plans going before Cabinet today.
As part of the Budget measure, the State would cover the cost if it is deemed clinically appropriate.
Health Minister Stephen Donnelly told Cabinet colleagues that it's a measure that could be enacted quickly.
Speaking before the meeting, he says HRT can be a very expensive treatment:
"It'll save, we believe, a lot of money from, you know, in and around €350, €400 to €800, €900.
"I was talking to a lady just the other day who said she spends about €1,000 a year on HRT products."
