An opinion poll shows that 40 percent of people would prefer to see open borders and free trade with the UK over that with the EU.
The Ireland Thinks survey in today's Irish Daily Mail, found that those over the age of 35 are more likely to prioritise a deal with the United Kingdom - with 43 percent of people aged over 65 choosing to maintain the relationship with our closest neighbours.
The poll also showed, when it comes to political allegiances, that people who vote for Sinn Fein are most likely choose a trade deal with the UK over the EU.
Deputy Political Editor of the Irish Daily Mail Jennifer Bray, says some of the survey's findings are quite surprising:
