A former GAA player has been arrested in the eastern region, in relation to an ongoing investigation into alleged fraud.
It is understood the individual was arrested yesterday afternoon.
He's still being detained this morning in relation to an ongoing Garda investigation.
The development comes following revelations from a number of people that they had been approached by the former player seeking money.
Barry Roche, Southern Correspondent with the Irish Times, says the suspect has been staying in the south of the county for the past two weeks.
"We understand that the suspect in this case has been staying at a location in the south of the country for the past two weeks."
"He was arrested under S4 of the Criminal Justice Act which allows Gardaí to detain suspects for up to 24 hours," Roche added.
