A fully electric fleet of buses are hitting the streets of Athlone.
It's the country's first fully electric town bus service.
The 11 Bus Éireann vehicles cost €600,000 each and will be fully operational in the town by January 29th.
Minister Eamon Ryan says these electric buses have huge environmental benefits.
"They're very quiet. I mean, when you pick up speed, you start to get the wheel noise sound, but at a slow pace in the town, that's why they have to put that sound back in.
"But they're better in so many different ways.
"That air quality issue as well as low emissions for towns around the country where you've diesel in the centre of town, that's not good. That's bad for people's health.
"So it's the local benefits, the health benefits, the local air quality benefits."
The fleet is part of the government's pathfinder programme, which aims to deliver various transport projects across the country in the next three years.
