Fitzgibbon Street Garda station in Dublin's North inner city is to be reopened as part of a Government plan to tackle gangland criminals in the area.

The Taoiseach's to take personal charge of a taskforce that will draw up a 10 year plan to regenerate the community.

Enda Kenny's announced an immediate 1.6 million euro fund for investment in sports and recreation projects, a clean-up and drug projects.

Mr Kenny says Fitzgibbon Garda station was closed for refurbishment rather than cutbacks, and he wants to get it back open as soon as possible:
