Fish and chips could be off the menu in months to come, as Irish fishermen struggle to cope with fuel and electricity costs.
Fish producers say some boats are struggling to go out to sea because of rising fuel costs.
Seven of their associations have written to the Minister for the Marine Charlie McConalogue, calling for the government to draw down EU funds.
Patrick Murphy from the Irish and West Fish Producers Organisation says the EU has provided aid to other countries, where fishermen are struggling with the price of fuel:
"We're pleading with the Minister to do what the other Ministers are doing in Europe.
"What Europe, the Commission and the European Parliament have given the provision for. To give us this aid to allow us to continue in our jobs."
