Ireland's first baby of the New Year was born just after the stroke of midnight.
The healthy baby girl - named Emily - was delivered at the National Maternity Hospital, Holles Street, Dublin at about 5 seconds past midnight. Her proud mum Monica Duff says baby Emily is doing well; Monica's two other children, Matthew and Michelle, "are looking forward to seeing their new sister."
Another little girl, Eloise, was born in the Coombe Hospital Dublin at 20 seconds past midnight.
In the Rotunda a baby boy was delivered at 24 minutes past midnight - weighing in at just over 7 pounds.
In Cavan General Hospital a baby was born at 1.45am, and in Cork University Maternity Hospital, the earliest arrival was at 1.58am.
