Parents may need to check their liability insurance before inviting children over to their child's birthday party.
It comes following months of fears over the cost of premiums for cars, households, and businesses.
It was reported this week in Waterford that some parents had enquired about another families' insurance policy before allowing their children to attend a party.
A Government Minister has said he hopes establishing a Judicial Council will reduce the 'easy money' being granted for some claims;
“I really firmly believe when you reduce the levels of awards, people won't be looking for easy money to the same extent," said Minister in the Department of Finance with responsibility for Financial Services and Insurance, Michael D'Arcy to WLR.
"I believe you won't have some of the people involved in law pursuing the matter to the same extent, because there will be a much smaller claim award amount available in the future.
“I just hate to hear things of that nature but unfortunately there are a very small number of people who behave like that.
"We’ve all seen cases where we’re all scratching our heads wondering how in the name of God did someone get awarded that quantity of money.”
