A father and his son who fled the civil war in Syria are the first two people to buried following the New Zealand terror attacks.
44 year old Khalid Mustafa and 15 year old Hamza funerals were held this morning.
Khalid's wife said they came to Christchurch last year to be in the "safest country in the world".
Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern says the nation will come together.
