The Environment Minister says he's in favour of banning certain dog breeds.
It's after Nicole Morley was killed in a dog attack in Co. Limerick after celebrating her 23rd birthday on Tuesday night.
A Garda investigation is underway into the attack at a house near the village of Ballyneety.
It's understood the animal involved was an XL bully.
Minister Eamon Ryan, says he would support banning them.
"I personally would be supportive of us restricting, banning such breeds because it's not just that they're a threat to their owner, it's they're a threat to the community.
"I mean, literally a threat in the sense that when you're walking down path and you see that type of dog coming at you, you're scared. And I'm thinking, well, why are we terrorising people in our communities?"
Rural Affairs Minister Heather Humphreys, says some breeds may be banned if it's what's recommended by an expert group:
"I have set up a stakeholders group to look at the whole issue around the control of dogs and it's chaired by a former Deputy Garda Commissioner and they are looking at a number of issues.
"I have spoken to the Chairperson John Toomey, and I have asked him to prioritise the issue of restricted breeds which we have in this country".
