Newsagents say U-16 energy drink ban is unworkable

A group representing newsagents says it would be impossible to police a proposed ban on selling energy drinks to teenagers.

Health experts are calling for a voluntary code to be introduced to prevent young people from buying the drinks because of their high sugar and caffeine content.

The highest consumers are males between the age of 15 and 24.

The Safe Food Group says retailers should ask young people looking for these products for ID.

But speaking on the Last Word Vincent Jennings from the Convenience Stores and Newsagents Association said it wouldn't work:
