Employment levels increased by almost 34,000 people or 1.8% in the year to the end of the second quarter of 2013.
The Central Statistics Office says it represents the third successive quarter showing an annual rise in employment.
Meanwhile, the level of unemployment has fallen for the fifth quarter in a row.
In the year to the end of June, the numbers reduced by 22,200 or 6.9%, on the same time in 2012.
300,700 people were unemployed at the end of the second quarter, giving a slightly reduced unemployment rate of 13.7%.
