Environmental group 'Voice Ireland' is calling for a €50 deposit scheme for tents to be introduced at next year's electric picnic.
Last year a bulldozer was needed to clear away tents and rubbish from the campsites.
Festival organisers say that this year they was cracking down on single use plastic and they have appealed for people to take their tents home with them, but Voice Ireland says that not enough is being done.
The environmental group has criticised the cup deposit scheme which still uses plastic cups and bottles instead of reusable ones and it says that people should be allowed to take their own food containers to cut down on single use containers.
Mindy O'Brien from Voice Ireland says 'we need to be careful not to 'greenwash' their actions, and say they've done 'this and this' but it still doesn't solve the problem of a disposable society. It;s so condensed and there's so many people in one place that the waste is so visible, but we generate that waste everyday and people don't see it because you put it on the curb and it's gone'.
