Electric vehicle charging points are set to be installed in sports grounds and shopping centres across the country, as part of a new EV infrastructure plan.
Transport Minister, Eamon Ryan, says the strategy includes plans to install high-powered chargers every 60 kilometres on the motorway network.
€100 million is set to be spent on the new infrastructure over the next three years.
Minister Ryan says putting in charging points in sports clubs around the country makes sense, "Everyone can see the sense in that, going there to watch the match, bring the kids, you can charge up, and that'll be a big help to the community.
Looking forward to launching the new #EV Charging Infrastructure Strategy later as outlined in #CAP23. By 2025 we’ll see fast chargers on our motorways every 60km
As well as chargers at:
🏢Apartments
🏘Neighbourhoods
⚽️Destinations like sports clubs and shops

Eamon Ryan says local councils will also be given more support to install charging points.
"The work with local government hasn't worked yet. We've had a grant scheme to try to encourage local authorities to put in charger points, but it hasn't worked, so we're changing it. We'll be giving them greater support".
